The IBM ThinkPad X30 comes using a motherboard featuring USB 1.1 ports. If you would like to access the larger speed capabilities of a USB 2.0 port, you may need to add an expansion card towards the laptop. The ThinkPad X30 features a Type-2 Computer card slot integrated around the motherboard, so you are able to add the USB 2.0 ports by way of a PCMCIA card.
1 Insert the driver installation disk, in case your PCMCIA USB 2.0 card came with it, in to the ThinkPad’s optical drive.
2 Click “Install” or “Setup.” The distinct measures for installing the computer software and utilities varies using the card manufacturer. Stick to the on-screen guidelines supplied by the installation wizard to finish the installation.
3 Shut off your laptop. Insert the PCMCIA card into your card slot. In case you are not positive which slot the card slot is, appear for the label by the slot. The slot size also matches as much as the size in the PCMCIA card. Turn your laptop on. Windows detects the card and installs the correct drivers for it, enabling the USB ports.
